Title: Maine 4-H Foundation Assistant Director

Campus: Magic Lantern Innovation Center, Bridgton

Salary Position: Salary negotiated based on experience

Statement of the Job:

Primary responsibilities are program and business management at the Magic Lantern Innovation Center.

With an expectation of high levels of autonomy and self-motivation, this position is charged with managing and executing a wide range of administrative, program development, and operational support activities in collaboration with the Maine 4-H Foundation Executive Director and the team at the Magic Lantern. This position executes the day-to-day activities of the Magic Lantern Innovation Center all while maintaining confidentiality and integrity. As Assistant Director, this position requires a high level of program oversight, development, scheduling, supervision, and management. This professional position works concurrently in multiple areas of responsibility while assisting the Maine 4-H Foundation Executive Director and board with identifying and meeting often unforeseen requests and deadlines in the context of a dynamic schedule.

The Maine 4-H Foundation is a partner of the University of Maine community with more than 11,700 undergraduate and graduate students, and 2,500 employees located on the Orono campus and throughout the state. UMaine is the state land and sea grant university and maintains a leadership role as the System’s flagship university.  As a result, it provides excellent teaching, research, and service at the university, state, and national levels. The 4-H Youth Development is a program of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension under the land grant university system.

Responsibilities:

  • Operational management for the Magic Lantern Innovation Center
  • Direct work in collaboration with the Executive Director of the Maine 4-H Foundation
  • Supervision for the manager(s) of the theater, culinary arts, and hospitality
  • Overall supervision and administration of staff and operations of the center
  • Financial management of the profit and loss, business management
  • Supervision of payroll
  • Oversight for the Magic Lantern Innovation Center educational programs and staff
  • Supervision of educational programming with an emphasis on hosting UMaine and 4-H Youth Development programs
  • Manage oversight of contracts and licenses with the Maine 4-H Foundation Executive director and board
  • Supervision of the Magic Lantern Innovation Center internship experience
  • Supervision of volunteers and AmeriCorps positions
  • Coordinating large group performances, presentations, film festivals, etc

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in experience and training
  • Three or more years of relevant and administrative work experience in small business management and operations, or similarly complex public or private organization
  • Marketing and communications knowledge, experience and demonstrated success
  • Youth educational program experience
  • Educational and performing arts scheduling and administrative experience
  • Effective oral, written, and electronic communication skills
  • Independent work skills and multiple task management skills in an autonomous work environment as well as teamwork skills and ability to achieve and document measurable results
  • Demonstrated team leadership, management, organizational, and facilitation skills, including strict attention to work project details, and conflict management skills
  • Demonstrated positive supervisory experience
  • Ability to travel both in and out-of-state normally requiring a valid driver's license
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds

 

Preferred

  • MS in Business Management/Fund Development with at least two years of experience
  • Fluency in MS Office and Google Suite and social media platforms
  • Experience with customer relationship management tools
  • Ability to multitask, organize, prioritize, and work within deadlines
  • Ability to be professional and able to communicate information accurately and effectively
  • Ability to display independent judgment, initiative, and sound decision making
  • Experience working with diverse audiences and supporting equal opportunity, affirmative action, and civil rights goals
  • Demonstrated record of trustworthiness, discretion, and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
  • Organizational and operational/project management acumen
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • Advanced skills in typical office technology and software programs and in presentation development
  • Demonstrated abilities to perform complex tasks, prioritize multiple projects, and analyze, summarize, and effectively present data
  • Strong demonstrated administrative, analytical, computer, critical thinking, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Competencies in the following:
    • Recognition of the complexity of the role of an assistant director of a non-profit organization
    • Ability to identify opportunities and potential roadblocks and issues
    • Skill in compromise and consensus building to advance the needs of the Innovation Center
    • Ability to problem solve
